Windrowed In Our Wake

DSC02472

Along the rows, under the trees
We march through the orchard on our knees
The hot August sun on our backs and
On the brims of wide, straw hats
Yellow nut sedge, crab grass, dandelions
Windrowed in our wake
Horsenettle with its thorny leaves
Is pinched where it meets the ground
And we leave the strawberries and garlic to grow
Between the trees in the rows
March marching along
Merrily, in the hot, August sun
