The Ground of Happiness

The girls went to the old folks home
To hang paintings for old eyes

While the boys stayed to chop firewood, rake acorns
And crack hazels

While the piggie sorted through the acorns
The cows chewed their cud in the sun
And the dogs slept quiet in the shade

Everyone resting on the ground of happiness
As the leaves trickle down

  1. Raking acorns for the pigs. I do that time, when I make the time. Seems a pity to leave them for the deer, who have plenty elsewhere.

It’s the season for “precious Autumn sunshine” (as I have read elsewhere this morning).
