Hot Kings of Peaches

It’s been so hot since
You’ve been gone

By noon it’s 85 degrees in the kitchen
And the cows only graze in the shade

I’m keeping up on most things
But I haven’t touched the weeds

And the cucumbers are likely overgrown
I haven’t been in them

There’s so much to do
And the kids just want to go swimming in the pond

The laundry is piled up
And the grass is getting high

Only the peaches make us feel special
Like we’re kings of abundance

We were lucky devils
When you were here

But it’s been so hot
Since you’ve been gone
